Mountain and River

River

The largest river system in Bhutan, Drangme Chhu is the Bhutanese name for the holy Manas River. The 376 kilometres long river flows across Bhutan spanning 272 kilometres and covers the rest 104 kilometres by passing through the Indian state of Assam.

Mountain

Wold’s highest unclaimed mountain and the 40th highest mountain in the world that lies on the border of Bhutan and Tibet, Gangkhar Puensum! It’s the highest mountain in Hutan, and at 7.570 m.

Forests!

Bhutan has over 71 percent of its territory under forest cover. Bhutan’s extensive forest cover and pristine environment, coupled with its strong conservation efforts, has allowed the country to have exceptionally rich biodiversity with flourishing populations of some of the reared flora and fauna.

Natural Disasters!

Bhutan faces escalating challenges from natural and human-made hazards, including earthquakes, floods, landslides, glacial lake outburst floods and forest fires. The country's vulnerability to these threats is compounded by an increasingly complex disaster risk landscape driven by climate change.

Population

Bhutan’s population is 791.307 as per 11 April 2024. The current population density of Bhutan in 2024 is 20.64 people per square kilometer, a 0.63% increase from 2023.

Rural Area

Aggregation of urban and rural population may not add up to total population because of different country coverages. Bhutan rural population for 2022 was 440,632, a 0.56% decline from 2021.

Urban Area

Bhutan urban population for 2022 was 341,823, a 2.23% increase from 2021. It’s calculated by using World Bank population estimates and urban ratios from the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects.
